Project: I was hired to design a new logo and establish a total brand look, for a classical pianist who performs, teaches, composes, and plans to open a new music studio on Sanibel Island, Florida

Message: The client is new to the southern gulf coast area - so logo needs to clearly communicate a sophisticated, well-educated musician who is offering graduate-level advanced piano sessions and workshops. The design as well as the colors need to reflect the upscale beach environment of that area.

Influences: We identified, in the early stages of the design, that he was drawn to the Art Nouveau period.

  1. Coni, I think this logo successfully captures the message the client wanted to portray. The use of different blue values does give off the beach environment with creating a water-like texture, the shapes in the logo themselves are very fluid and give the illusion of water. On the other hand, the addition of black gives it the more classical, upscale look that the client still wanted to be present as well.

The piano is the focal point, you immediately know this logo design has to do with music, but then the lines lead you around the piano and you start to see shell-like shapes and the logo starts to have more explanation of who this client is.

  2. I love the fan shape design you have on both side of the design. It definitely has an art deco feel to it. i'm not really sure what the piano is for but since its a personal logo i think it would be fine.

  3. I think the gradients work great in creating balance within the logo. I find it very difficult sometimes to have gradients as well as balance especially working in colors. This is a great way that this is successful in this case. The blues add a cool and peaceful tone to the logo and the person.

  4. I love the illustration work of the piano-very detailed. The logo as a whole is elegant, with great choices of vibrant colors that definitely gives off an oceanic feel.
I noticed the "Ph.D" is in small-caps, with the 'h' as the only lowercase letter in the logo. I wonder how it would look with the 'P' and 'D' as larger caps and 'h' as small-caps, like how it is with the rest of the name. I just wonder if it would look more balanced than it already is. Also I notice both legs of the piano is in the same direction. If you are aiming for very symmetrical look, I would have the left leg if flipped/mirrored horizontally.
Overall, great work! This logo and concept works very well

  5. Coni,
The over all design of this logo works well to reflect the sophistication that the client wanted to portray. The colors reflect the coast theme well, and the placement of the two different turquoise shapes allow for a soft feel throughout the design. The strokes of the line, and the circle surrounding the piano, give off the Art Nouveau style, which I'm sure the client really enjoyed. I agree with Maria as far as the leg of the piano goes. Flipping the left piano leg gives a more symmetrical look. Overall, the (almost) symmetrical design has balance and creates a great composition.
