Farmall Tractor Bookzine

Hi everyone, here is my Project #2, a Bookzine about Farmall Tractors.

There were many project requirements for the class that I had to input into the project that have since been removed now that I am turning it into a portfolio piece.

The target audience for this magazine is obviously people who are very interested in tractors. I took it upon myself to assume most would be of an older generation as well so I tried to attend to that audience by having the text size be just a bit larger and a larger than normal leading size to assist in readability.

I manipulated the photos to make the tractors stand out of the photos more and from those saturated colors in the tractors I found my color scheme for the bookzine.

After the class critique I made some additional changes. One critique was for pages 4 & 5 - to remove some wording since that was the only spread that was very dense. Everything from the logo to the name of the magazine are my own ideas so any critiques on those as well would be appreciated!

One thing I did notice just with uploading the jpegs to the blog, the actual text looks a bit lighter than it really is. On the blog it looks very thin and a grey color, but just know that it really doesn't look like that on screen or printed.

Thanks so much!

Design Culture Now

Hi everyone,

I did this project for a typography class. The assignment was to use more than one grid system and make them work together. I want to include it in my portfolio but I could use your feedback for ideas on how to improve it first. I was thinking about adding texture to the background... Thoughts?

Project: To create a poster for the “Design Culture Now” event that showcases different designers and the times when they will be giving their lectures.

Message: The target audience is young artists, 18-26, who would be fresh into the field and looking for advice from talented professionals. The poster needs to give the feeling of design culture.

Influences: I wanted to give this piece a bit of a street feel, like graffiti or the road lines painted on asphalt. The idea was to make it young, somewhat edgy and down to earth.

Quantum Leap

Hello class,

I am trying to figure out if this piece has portfolio potential.
For Information Design we had to design a page in Time Magazine (right page) for a Quantum Leap smart computer. The information was provided for us and simplified in order for us to create an infographic based off of this big black box (center) which is the actual computer.

Since I am no longer in this class I am actually thinking about redoing the assignment based off of my original sketches before our class found out about the specs.

I will be bringing a copy of this project to class for our circle time.

Royal Tea Brochure

The idea behind Royal Tea was to create a brand that would appeal to young female tea drinkers by being fun, feminine and creative. The purple I chose was inspired by the "Royal" part of the company's name, purple being the color of royalty. I felt it suited my audience and served as a secondary element in my ads. I wanted this brochure to inform consumers of where and how Royal Tea gets its tea and give them a feel for the company's unique style. I made some changes from the original and it feels more complete now.
I would love some feedback though. Is there anything I should change?

Requiem For a Dream Poster

Hey all,
This is my first piece I'm considering. I did this poster in Digital Illustration and the goal of the project was to recreate a movie poster in a 50's like style. My inspiration for the poster was to go for a sort of Saul Bass feel. Saul Bass was known for his posters starting in the 1950's with posters for movies like Vertigo, The Man with the Golden Arm, Love in the Afternoon, and Anatomy of a Murder. Saul's distinct style has always had a place in my heart because his approach to design was so much different than what was coming out at the time.
All the elements of the poster reference major concepts within Requiem for a Dream. Now I don't want to go too into detail what they all are and why they're there because I'd rather recommend you watch the movie, and I really don't want to spoil anything
.The original had eyes within the Testcard colors that never really felt quite right to me. They were put there as a requirement of the project, but they just always seemed out of place, so I scrapped them. I also messed around with the typography (and still am) to give the type more breathing room, and also because I'm playing around with the idea of adding more credits to the bottom. I would also like to see of people think I should keep or remove the tagline. While many 1950's movie posters had taglines, many of Saul Bass's didn't which encourages me to scrap that as well.

Thanks in advance for any feedback,
Tony

Mondani Decor Style Guide - Project 1

Hi everyone, here is my Project 1 that I would like to be critiqued!

This project came out of my Corporate Branding class and is based on a brand that I built myself. This is the brand's complete style guide.

The client is Mondani Decor, a home goods store that competes with other brands like Pottery Barn, West Elm and Pier 1 Imports. Mondani in Italian means "worldly" and that is where the inspiration for the brand and products come from, from all over the world.

The Mondani Decor brand should feel authentic, giving off a thoughtful handcrafted feel. The brand's attributes are: Diverse, Quality, Experience, Energy, Inspirational, Cultured and Modern. The brands official colors have specifically been chosen to represent the earth in a modern, simplified sense. The secondary element, the imagery of ropes is what ties the brand together, figuratively and literally! The ropes are pulling together all the cultures of the world that Mondani Decor represents through their products.

Since this project itself is a style guide, its goal is to go more in depth of who Mondani Decor is as a whole brand so I hope you to the time to look it over and get a chance to understand the brand more in depth.

Thanks so much!
-Amanda

Chuck Chops

Hi guys,

Here is a project I want to use for the portfolio. It is from Info-Design class.

Project: Create 2-3 diagrams with subjects of your choice. The diagrams must relate to each other. Must also make-up a client and persona

Brief:
There are many food/meat lovers, chiefs, and cooking enthusiast out there that are confused when it comes to ordering meat, whether it’s at a restaurant or at a butcher shop. Not all meat are the same. The tenderness of meat – the way it should be cooked – is determined by the area of the animal from which it was cut. I want to create a diagram for Chuck Chops Meat Market, restaurants, and butcher shops so that customers and even the cooks and butchers are aware of what specific meat they are getting/cooking.

Client:
Chuck Norris is the owner of Chuck Chops Meat Market that sells free-roaming and organic meat. Owners of popular near-by steakhouses, as well as local culinary students, often come in to buy his meat. Customers constantly ask him the difference in cuts of meat he sells, so he wants something that customers can read and be aware of what kind of meat they are buying

Audience:
The target audience includes butchers, chefs/cooks, restaurant owner, culinary students, food/meat lovers, and cooking enthusiast. The meat at Chuck Chops comes from free-roaming farms where animals were fed pesticide-free grass. This may also lure eco-friendly and health-concious audience as well

Persona:
Jen is a 25 year old culinary student at Le Cordon Bleu in Boston. She regularly comes to Chuck Chops Meat Market to buy special cuts of meat for school recipes. Though she is learning about food at school, she still gets confused about different cuts of meat. She is a straightforward person who like things to be organized and hates things that are obnoxiously colorful, but she loves the color orange. She is requesting the diagram posters to help with her next cooking project.

Let me know what you think, any helpful suggestions, and if there are any grammatical errors.
Thanks!

Project: Boston Cycle is a bike rental that wanted a brochure to help promote their new bike tours around North End.

Target Audience: They wanted to market toward an older generation because they have more time to tour leisurely as well as would like to keep active through various activity and light exercise. Following this concept i focused on good typography and lovely images of the tour to catch their attention. I created a subtle layout to support my typography and images.
