undertaking, and let your colors show.
Chameleons are commonly known for their ability to blend in
with their surroundings, but the reality is that the creatures primarily use
their color-changing abilities for communication purposes, not camouflage. Art is something that I feel passionate about
as a communication tool between humans, so that was a parallel that I focused
strongly on during this project. The logo is a simplified chameleon face from
the front view, an angle that isn’t often seen in photographs. The logo font is
Eccentric STD, which I found strongly reminiscent of a chameleon’s long,
stick-like legs. The secondary element is a spread of rounded diamonds. The diamonds come in all of the
colors from the company palette EXCEPT for the actual green of the logo, and
they are laid out in all different sizes. This design element is a reference to
chameleon skin, which is covered in rough bumps of different sizes that enable
the chameleon to change their colors. Instead of circular shapes, I used the
rounded diamonds in order to connect back to the logo.

Siobhan I love your logo, and beautiful secondary element. Your secondary element pattern definitely say creative and free spirited. About hitting a wall, I think its more like not seeing a door because for tour and event page; You have your type tucked in between your image and secondary element. That makes me wanna read it.
ReplyDeleteWhat is Chameleon page? and Product page those page are well-design but i kinda glimpse through it. i think all you need to about how to add space between them and how you break them apart. i was the same with Evok style guide, but i decided i wanted more personal. I just turned on my fav music and let the beat flow to help with typography.
Siobhan - you have a strong concept behind this piece, and it shows in your design decisions. Nice. I have a few thoughts:
ReplyDelete1. We see your cute logo in relation to the flowing rounded diamonds on the cover - and yet I'm not convinced you have carefully considered the negative space/shape that is created between them. The cover design could be refined with some thought in that direction.
2. I may feel the same about this same "flowing" element as it sits behind the type on the interior and moves across the page... notice I didn't say "pages." I wonder if you are missing an opportunity to create unity between the pages of your spreads with this background element. Instead of using it twice, separately on the pages, have you considered using it once? Or, using it however many times you like, but with the intention to pull together the pages?
3. Please read the text out loud - there are a few instances of repeated words in some sentences.
4. Back cover design - the design is divided in half corner to corner with the rounded diamonds... separating the logo from the heading and leaving awkward neg space in the design. Consider pulling the logo and heading closer so they "read" together, and use the rounded diamonds to create interest and pull the reader's eyes (yes, we will follow the arc of the diamonds).
I look forward to seeing what happens with this project.
Siobhan, I love your logo and secondary element definitely expresses fun and expression! I also liked how you placed the images in certain shapes. The flow of the secondary element work really well on the third and fourth but I am not sure about the last page. Other than that I think your concept is wonderful it's so playful and colorful and the negative space only enhances it. Great work!
ReplyDeleteHi Siobhan, I agree a lot with what Coni said about the diamond elements, maybe fewer diamonds in random areas could be used to lead the viewer around the page from paragraph to paragraph.
ReplyDeleteI was in your class as well so I know we had a lot of things that were required to be written in these brochures so maybe taking some wording out would give you some room to play around with negative space and maybe some differentiate in type sizes, just something to give the actual wording some more interest, overall though I really like this design and your logo. I completely agree with your logo typeface and think its perfect... and wouldn't mind seeing it somewhere else in the brochure! :)
