Self Branding

Here are my business card and resume. I'm including two versions of the resume- the one I had already finished when this class started, and what I redid after getting some critique in class. I'm still not sure how I feel about them, so feedback is definitely appreciated. Thanks!

(Also, I might be removing the address from my resume entirely. I'm going to be moving shortly after graduation, so I feel silly printing 100 copies of these using an address that won't be correct in a few months, but I don't have a new address yet to put there. Suggestions on how to handle that? Should I just write Boston MA like I did on the business card? Or my parents' address back in CT even though I won't live there long? I'm emailing Amanda about this but the more input the better.)

  1. Hi Siobhan, I really like what you did with your logo and in my opinion, the second resume is the way to go. The one with the solid green bar on the left, for me it creates a more balanced look to even out all the text that is needed here. The other feels too like a generic stationary to me, like something I've seen before too many times.

As far as your address, if you're going to be moving somewhere around here or at least in MA then I would keep Boston, MA because its not like you won't have a network here of people you have a potential of working with. If you're moving to another state, maybe you could do the same with just putting your new city and state. I think you should put the location of wherever you hope to work in!

  2. Siobhan,
I agree with Amanda about the resume choice... but then I also wonder how you might subtly use that large green area? Consider deconstructing your logo to show us only a bit of it, bleeding off left... in just slight contrast to the green (like a ghost of the curves in the SS... or possibly using only the splash behind the double S ligature). I think it is an opportunity for texture and subtle design work. I feel the same about the back of your business card.

Have you considered "New England" as your general area? That gives head hunters an idea of where you are located when considering whether to solicit you.

  3. Siobhan,

I too agree about the second resume being the better option of the two. The first one has too much negative space, and the double line going around seems to add clutter. The second resume has a more simplistic feel, and the attention is immediately drawn to your name, which seems to be serving its purpose.

The logo itself is designed very nicely, and the green is a great color.
